NORTH OGDEN - Danny Lee Hawkins 55, returned to his Heavenly Father Friday, May 5, 2006, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born November 21, 1950 in Ogden, Utah to Lois Lily Tracy and Richard Keith Hawkins. On April 16, 1971, Danny married Colleen Haymes in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. Dan and Colleen lived in Washington Terrace for many years before moving to North Ogden. He attended Weber school district and graduated from Bonneville High School in 1969. Dan proudly served in the U.S. Navy from June 1970 to June 1974. Dan had a great love for the American flag and this great country. He also served in the U.S. Navy and Air Force Reserves. He worked at Hill Air Force Base for 28 years as an aircraft painter until diagnosed with Lou Gehrigs disease (ALS) and had to take a medical retirement in 2002. Dan was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a great love for the gospel and never had a problem sharing his testimony with others. He had a great love for others. He always enjoyed helping whenever he could. He loved to talk. He was blessed with the gift of gab. He loved to go to Pineview or Lake Powell boating and spending time with family and talking to anyone he could find to talk to. Dan is survived by his loving wife, Colleen; two sons and one daughter, Shane (LuAnna) Hawkins, Tremonton; Holly (Kevin) Rowley; South Ogden; Justin (Michelle) Hawkins, Roy; four grandchildren whom he loved very much, Kristofer Hawkins, Mikayla Hawkins, Andrew Rowley, Jared Rowley; two sisters, Joan (Dave) Hadley, Ogden; Linda Merrill, Yuma, AZ; a brother, Charles (Kay) Hawkins, Riverdale; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a very loving and caring mother-in-law, Marva Clontz, and a very special extended family, Dave and Mary Haymes, Patrick and Felicia Haymes, Deborah Haymes, Dean and Judy Haymes, Nicci Varney, Sam (Susan) Humphery, Juliana Humphery and Roger Damptz; many special friends, Patsy and Denton Aschliman, Daryl and Julene Duncan, Jamie and Sharon Gardner, and Craig and Rosemary Chambers. Dan and his family wish to express their heartfelt thank you to all family and friends who helped with his constant care. Special thanks to Applegate Hospice for their loving care and service to Dan and to the Northern Utah ALS Support Group. Dan was very courageous and fought a very valiant battle against ASL and was great example to all who knew and love him. Dan, you have fulfilled your earthly mission, well done, you have now advanced to a higher calling. You are loved by many. We will miss you until we are once again reunited as an Eternal Family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 10th at 3 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends and family may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. at the mortuary.
