Etta Jean Furgeson

Etta Jean Sexton 
March 13, 1951 - October 1, 2024 

Etta Jean Sexton, 73, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024, at Ogden Regional Hospital. Born on March 13, 1951, in Ogden, Utah, Etta remained a lifelong resident of her beloved hometown. She was the cherished daughter of Leonard Earl Furgeson and Agnes "Funk" Furgeson and was the youngest of three children. 
Etta graduated from Bonneville High School in 1969. Later that year, she  married Terry C. Sexton; they later divorced in 1984. A dedicated and hardworking individual, Etta worked for the IRS for 22 years and held various other jobs throughout her career. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jo Anne Ellis Castelli, and her brother Lennie Furgeson. Etta is survived by her daughter, Billi Jean Sexton Jorgensen (James Jorgensen); her son, Jedd Christopher Sexton; and her grandchildren, Joshua Lee Hooper, Skylor Wixom (Kimber Carter), Austin Christopher Sexton (Bailey Sexton), Cody Lane Garner, and Brooklyn Bauer. She also leaves behind her cherished great-grandchildren: Jaxon Lee Hooper, Brylee Rose Sexton, Journee Kay Hooper, Emery Layla Sexton, and Kamdyn Sexton. Etta is also survived by her two nephews, Rick Ellis (Shelly Ellis) of NC, and Mike Ellis (Bobbie Ellis) of WA. 
Etta was passionate about the outdoors; she loved camping, fishing, duck hunting, and trap shooting. She also enjoyed country music and dancing, as well as classic cars like Camaros, Firebirds, and Z28s. Etta had a fondness for the oldies and found joy in spending time with her family, whether playing dice, Cards Against Humanity, or chess. Some of her favorite pastimes included watching shows like American Pickers, Storage Wars, Pawn Stars, and Dancing with the Stars. She also enjoyed horror movies and paranormal mysteries. Etta had a deep appreciation for those around her and was grateful to those who supported and visited her. 
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Ogden Regional Hospital and her home care and wound care nurses for their professional and compassionate care. A special thank you to her sister-in-law, Sherry Liptrap Swift, for her unwavering love and support. Etta will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who find comfort in knowing she is now free from pain and at peace. 
The funeral services will be held on Monday, October 14th, 2024, at Leavitt's Mortuary located at 836 36th St., Ogden, Utah. A viewing will take place from 11 am to 12 pm followed by a graveside service at 12pm.
