SOUTH OGDEN - Pfc. Paul Myers, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. David H. Myers of 798 42nd, was killed in action in Vietnam on Sept. 5 while serving with the U.S. Marine Corps near Da Nang. Pfc. Myers was assigned to Vietnam four months ago. He was born May 28, 1951 in San Francisco, Calif., a son of David H. and Mary E. Seamons Myers. He enlisted in the Marine Corps Feb. 27, 1969, and completed basic training at the U.S. Marine Station at San Diego. Calif. He was a member of the LDS Church, South Ogden Stake, and was a priest in the 65th Ward. He attended Bonneville High School and was active in school and church athletics. Surviving are his parents of South Ogden and one sister, Mrs. William H. (Sharon) Russell, Kalamazoo, Mich. Funeral services will be announced by the Myers Mortuary.
Paul, the son of David H. Myers and Mary S. Myers of Ogden UT, enlisted in the US Marine Corps on February 27, 1969 in Salt Lake City UT. He arrived in Vietnam on May 8 1970, and was assigned to Company H, 2d Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.
On the evening of September 5, during Operation IMPERIAL LAKE while in the Central Que Son Mountains on Hill 845 in Duy Xuyen District the men were in a defensive perimeter when PFC Myers leaned his rifle against a tree. The rifle fell over, discharging a round that mortally wounded the Marine. PFC Myers died during the night from the accidental discharge from his M-16 rifle before he could be evacuated at first light.
